The SUBVETS Headquarters will be in the Peabody Hotel. The Scorpion/George Washington Reunion Dinner will be Thursday 7 September 2006. Our meeting room and reunion dinner will be in the WYNDHAM RIVERFRONT Hotel, #2 Riverfront Place, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72114. (501) 371-9000. We will have a registration/ social room from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (7 September) for reunion check-in, ships store items, and sea stories. We will get together again from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for Cocktails and Reunion Book pictures with Dinner at 7:00 p.m. If you think you might attend, you should make hotel/RV reservations now. You can always cancel if you can’t make it. The USS GEORGE WASHINGTON crew will join us again for a joint reunion. The USS Narwhal crew has not officially joined us for the reunion but more of them are participating each year. Welcome again Narwhal. I guess Kansas City is not a very popular area for a summer trip. We only had fifty attendees for the Scorpion/George Washington Reunion dinner. The food and the service were outstanding. Our speaker was Mr. Pete Connolly the author of a new book – “The Last Slider” He is an associate member of the USS Springfield Base, worked for EB before becoming Director of General Dynamics Public Affairs at the Saint Louis Corporate office. The USSVI brought the USS Razorback to Arkansas. On her journey from Turkey, she held a memorial service over the final resting place of the USS Scorpion SSN 589. The Scorpion Alumni Association gave them a Scorpion plaque to dedicate to the deep during the ceremony and a double plaque (Scorpion/Razorback) to be permanently displayed at the Razorback Memorial site. You are encouraged to visit Razorback while you are in Little Rock. After Mr. Connolly’s speech, we had our traditional Trivia contests and raffle drawings. Paul Walker is the winner of the coveted title of 2005 Trivia Champion. Paul will have his framed certificate displayed on his submarine wall to support bragging rights. Thank you to all that donated prizes for our raffle. Most of us made our customary donation at the casinos, but a few of the wives managed to leave with some Kansas City money. Many of our members took advantage of the SUBVETS functions. All of the SUBVET functions are available to us. As in the past you must return a Reunion Registration Sheet to me for the Scorpion/George Washington Reunion and return the SUBVETS registration form to them if you plan to participate in any of their functions or if you plan to use their Hospitality Room. You can download a USSVI registration form from ussvi.org. For those of you that did not pre-order a copy of the Kansas City reunion book, send your order with a $25 check to Dunning Company Inc., PO Box 759, Theodore, AL, 36590.
